Filipino guys tend to spoil the women in their lives. No matter who it is, their sister, their aunt, their mom, their friends.... their wives usually get the ultimate treatment. They go out of their way to make other people feel safe, secure and well. (How else could I put it?)

My friends ravel with the stories I tell them. A surprise visit, a present, simple lil nothings and gestures such as making sure you call them when you get home (all my guy friends do this, you guys are the best!) or cross the street safely (okay, I'm not an old woman, call the highway patrol) are considered grand gestures. Not just grand, it's considered something out of movies.

I don't necessarily believe its grand mainly because I expect to be treated that way by people I care about. Because it's a gesture of saying, I'm here for you, or I'm thinking of you or I miss you. Simplicity is the name of the game. You don't say, you do. It goes both ways, without need for vocal affirmation. It's not chivalry, it's saying you care.

But here, it's a different story. Sure, guys will open doors for you. But they won't be concerned whether you're walking ahead of them or slowing down. They'll wait for you by the T but they won't wait for you to fish out money from your wallet and offer to stand in line. I honestly do not mind. Independence within the battle of the sexes? Bring it on!

But I have to admit. I do miss it. So when a guy offers to walk you two doors down the atm machine just to make sure you're safe, accept the gesture and appreciate it. Coz here baby, it's grand as gold.

That's why I'm ever so proud of Filipino men. Some of you may take a girl up to high heavens with lines that can win their heart and shatter it after but you guys know how to treat your women.

Sometimes its just better if its homegrown. :)
